#51 THE CAT'S-EYE THAT ATE MANHATTAN! 31/32" This was suppose to be a 6 vane, 3 color 3V but something terribly went wrong. And then maybe it
didn't. Ugliness can become sufficiently elevated to warrant serious consideration. And this cat-eye is seriously ugly. The two yellow vanes fused and
exploded or exploded and fused pretty much pinching-off the two white vanes into nothingness. Only the two blue vanes escaped unscathed. I think we all have
one or two cat's-eyes that attain such status/stature.
#52 DOUBLE-INGOT with what were suppose to be 6 vanes but in the pinching-off that occurred they look more like 3 vanes each (Y, R&B) 3/4". Thus it looks a lot like "The Cat's-Eye That Shrunk!"
#53 This won't show up to well but it well deserves recognition. This is a perfect little 5/8" Green Banana in Moonie Glass. Nice milk glass red glow within when put up to the sun.
#54 Right along after that previous one is a Green Banana with Oxblood. Seems that the oxblood is almost always just a thin sliver of ribbon along an edge of the banana. I believe these are relatively common; clearly an intentional run. 5/8"
#55 ST. MARY"S 31/32" Blue & Yellow. A p[erfect specimen! Purchased from John Harris who knows St. Mary's marbles.
#56 Marble King 1" 4 vane, 2 color hybrid. I got a few of these around 1989 from Charlie Stutsman who was dealing marbles into the 1980s. Orange and Yellow tips. Heavenly marble. I'd guess 1960s? Charlie was another marble legend. He'd climb in the pit at Champion to retrieve marbles.
#57 EUROPEAN SINGLE VANE 3/4" The single vane is about 1/8" thick with a bow to it. These are beautiful cat's-eyes! While one side is mainly white with a couple powder blue ribbons/vanes the other has a profusion of color: W, R, O, Y, PwdB, DkB and Brown. Wow!
#58 COLORED GLASS CAT'S-EYES - Tough to photograph (as a group) so you'll have to use your imagination. An Evening in Paris Blue 4 vane(white), a Dark Forest Green with what looks like half of a loosely constructed single vane except the multiple strands are all separate and a deep almost Black-Red with multi-vanes - dozens of them. 15/16", 5/8" and 5/8", resp.
#59 This cat's-eye eclipses all other cat's-eyes. I've known about it for a number of years and Rolf Wald let me borrow it and see it in person. Within this simple little 5/8" 6 vane, 3 color, 3V R,W&B marble is a small 1/8" bubble and within the bubble is a tiny piece of METAL. Shake the marble and you can hear it! For real, I kid you not! Extending from the bubble 1/8" on opposite sides are perfectly lined-up fracture lines making the bubble take on the appearance of a space ship. Spacey! Who knows what lies within the depths of cat's-eyes. Rolf told me that he was holding out with this marble waiting for cat's-eyes to gain the respect that they truly deserved!
#60 Also from Rolf Wald a 7/8" TRIPLE-INGOT with 4 vane, single color(green) in each of the three sections. Not too far off from being perfectly round too. These are far and few between.
I have my fingers crossed that this the second time attempting to Post this set of ten will actually happen. Pinx will be coming along to add the photos in due course. David
